CASE STUDIES

The project thanks and acknowledges the input and co-operation of the four municipalities which offered data from specific flood-prone areas to assist the research.

The councils are: City of Kingston, City of Melbourne, Mornington Peninsula Shire and City of Port Phillip

There was mutual benefit to the study and the councils involved in the project.

The research was greatly assisted by having real data to work with. And, while still producing largely hypothetical results, without the input of the actual council data, the outcomes would have been even less robust.

The participating councils benefited by learning more about how to respond to flooding. Because of their on-the-ground knowledge, they were able to work with the researchers to modify and adjust the economic modelling concepts.

These councils have a far better understanding of which cost-benefit analysis techniques are going to be useful for them in the future.

The councils also formed stronger partnerships with State Government agencies and departments responsible for flood response. This is going to be beneficial for their communities as roles and responsibilities in response to flooding evolves in the future.
