INUNDATION MAPPING
This maps shows a hypothetical model of what might temporarily happen as a result of a 100-year ARI rainfall event. See our glossary and the text below the map for a better understanding of what this means. No modelling has been done to predict how long it would take the water to drain away.
100-year ARI rainfall event
WHAT THESE MAPS SHOW
- These maps show modelling to represent what might happen during a 100-year ARI event - both currently (2011) and in 2100.
- In essence, they show the worst possible predicted events within a 100-year period. See our glossary for a more complete explanation.
- The flood information has been provided by Melbourne Water and is indicative only. The "event" is purely theoretical and may not ever actually happen.
- The modelling that produced these maps was based on a series of limitations and assumptions. It is important to be aware of these limitations and assumptions before drawing any conclusions from these maps.
- While care has been taken to use appropriate assumptions when developing the scenarios, they cannot be relied on.
- Over time, climate change scenarios and the assumptions on which they are based are likely to change, so future predictions will be different.
- The maps only have relevance within the broader context of the Port Phillip Bay Coastal Adaptation Pathways project.
- Due consideration must be given to any decisions made using this information.
